JIPMAT 2027 Complete Guide: IIM Jammu, Bodh Gaya & Ranchi (Seats, Fees, Selection)

JIPMAT 2027 Complete Guide: IIM Jammu, Bodh Gaya & Ranchi (Seats, Fees, Selection)

JIPMAT is the entrance exam for exactly two IIMs — IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya. Not three. The single most common mistake aspirants make is assuming IIM Ranchi is part of the JIPMAT group; it isn't, and preparing for the wrong exam costs a year. Here's the verified picture on seats, fees and selection — plus the Ranchi clarification.

What is JIPMAT — and who actually uses it

JIPMAT (Joint Integrated Programme in Management Admission Test) is a national-level exam conducted by the NTA for admission to the five-year Integrated Programme in Management. Only IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya admit through JIPMAT.

IIM Ranchi also offers an IPM, but it does not use JIPMAT — it admits on the IPMAT Indore score. We cover Ranchi below because it's so often grouped with the JIPMAT IIMs.

Future IIMer tip: Before you register for anything, confirm exactly which test your target IIM accepts. JIPMAT, IPMAT Indore and IPMAT Rohtak are three separate exams with different patterns, dates and cut-offs.

The biggest difference: there is no interview

Unlike IPMAT Indore, IPMAT Rohtak or IIM Shillong, neither JIPMAT college conducts a Personal Interview or Written Ability Test. Selection rests on your JIPMAT score plus your school academic record.

IIM Jammu's published criteria for the 2026-31 batch weight it as follows:

ComponentWeight
JIPMAT score70%
Class 10 & Class 12 marks30%
Gender diversityApplied as a diversity component

Candidates must also complete an Expression of Interest (EoI) after JIPMAT results are declared — miss it and you're out, regardless of score.

What this means for you: with no interview to rescue a weak profile, your Class 10 and 12 board marks are not a formality here — they are up to 30% of your admission. Don't sacrifice boards for exam prep.

Seats at the two JIPMAT IIMs

InstituteIPM seats
IIM Jammu140
IIM Bodh Gaya120

Reservation applies per Government of India norms. Each institute runs its own independent admission desk, so a score clearing Jammu's cut-off won't automatically clear Bodh Gaya's, and vice versa.

Fees — read this before comparing numbers

Why online fee figures for IPM vary so wildly: every 5-year IPM is charged in two phases. The first three years (the BBA phase) have a fixed published fee. Years 4 and 5 are billed at the institute's prevailing MBA fee for that year — which isn't fixed in advance. So a site quoting "₹17 lakh" is usually quoting the 3-year figure, while one quoting "₹36 lakh" is estimating the full five years. Always check which one you're reading.
InstituteFirst 3 years (BBA phase)Full 5-year programme (approx.)
IIM Jammu~₹18.5 lakh~₹43 lakh
IIM Bodh Gaya~₹14.5 lakh~₹28.5–33 lakh (varies by source)
IIM Ranchi (IPMAT Indore, not JIPMAT)₹17.25 lakh~₹36–37 lakh

Two honest caveats: years 4–5 track the prevailing MBA fee, so full-programme totals are always estimates; and published Bodh Gaya figures differ meaningfully between sources. Confirm the current structure on each institute's official website before making a financial decision.

Cut-offs — treat as indicative

Neither institute publishes a simple headline cut-off the way IIM Rohtak does. Widely reported figures from the 2026 cycle put the General-category requirement in the region of 280–300 raw marks at IIM Jammu and 280–310 at IIM Bodh Gaya, with category-wise sectional percentile requirements applied. These are secondary-source estimates, not official numbers — they move every year with paper difficulty and applicant volume, so use them to calibrate effort, not to set a target you treat as guaranteed.

IIM Ranchi: why it's not a JIPMAT college

IIM Ranchi's IPM admission is based entirely on the IPMAT Indore score. JIPMAT and IPMAT Rohtak scores are not accepted.

MetricIIM Ranchi
Entrance acceptedIPMAT Indore only
SelectionIPMAT Indore score + Personal Interview + academic profile
Fees₹17.25 lakh (first 3 years) · ~₹36–37 lakh (full 5 years)

If Ranchi is your target, your preparation must mirror IPMAT Indore's pattern — Quantitative Ability (MCQ and short-answer) plus Verbal Ability — not JIPMAT's. Note also that unlike the JIPMAT colleges, Ranchi does interview.

Honest correction: if you came here planning to "prepare JIPMAT for Ranchi," redirect now. The two exams test similar broad skills but differ in format, sections and selection.

How to prepare for JIPMAT 2027

  1. Confirm your target exam first — JIPMAT for Jammu and Bodh Gaya, IPMAT Indore for Ranchi. Don't split effort across mismatched patterns.
  2. Protect your board marks — with no interview and up to 30% weight on Class 10 and 12, boards are part of your admission, not a distraction from it.
  3. Build Quant from Class 10–11 NCERT — JIPMAT's Quant stays close to school-level Maths.
  4. Practise Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning together — JIPMAT bundles these.
  5. Take timed, full-length mocks — with two independent admission desks drawing from one exam, consistent overall performance is what travels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does IIM Ranchi accept JIPMAT scores?

No. IIM Ranchi's IPM admission runs on the IPMAT Indore score. Only IIM Jammu and IIM Bodh Gaya admit through JIPMAT. If IIM Ranchi is your target, you must register for IPMAT Indore, not JIPMAT.

How many seats are available through JIPMAT?

IIM Jammu offers 140 IPM seats and IIM Bodh Gaya offers 120 — roughly 260 seats in total across the two JIPMAT colleges. Reservation applies as per Government of India norms.

Is there an interview after JIPMAT?

No. Neither IIM Jammu nor IIM Bodh Gaya conducts a Personal Interview or Written Ability Test for IPM admission. Selection is based on your JIPMAT score together with your Class 10 and Class 12 academic record — which makes your board marks unusually important.

How is the IIM Jammu IPM merit list calculated?

IIM Jammu's published criteria for the 2026-31 batch give 70% weightage to the JIPMAT score and 30% to Class 10 and Class 12 marks, with a gender-diversity component also applied. Candidates must complete an Expression of Interest (EoI) after results are declared.

What are the total fees for IPM at the JIPMAT IIMs?

IIM Jammu's five-year IPM costs approximately ₹43 lakh in total (around ₹18.5 lakh for the first three years). IIM Bodh Gaya's published totals range from roughly ₹28.5 lakh to ₹33 lakh depending on the source. Years 4 and 5 are charged at prevailing MBA rates, which is why totals differ between sources.

Is JIPMAT easier than IPMAT Indore?

Difficulty is relative. JIPMAT's Quant stays closer to Class 10-11 NCERT level, which many students find approachable, and there is no interview round. But it has its own Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning demands, and with no interview your Class 10 and 12 marks carry real weight in the final merit.
