IIM Shillong IPM Admission 2026-31: Eligibility, Selection Process & Overall Score Explained

IIM Shillong is one of the IIMs offering the 5-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) after Class 12 — and its admission process has one feature that sets it apart from IIM Indore: the Personal Interview carries a full 50% of the final score. Here's exactly how IIM Shillong admits IPM students, based on its official 2026-31 admission policy — eligibility, the IPMAT/SAT route, the six-stage selection, and the Overall Score formula.

Note on timing: the 2026-31 application window (1–30 May 2026) has closed and results were declared in July 2026. This guide explains IIM Shillong's IPM admission process, which repeats annually — so if you're targeting the 2027 cycle, this is how it will work for you.

Class 10 & 12 marksMinimum 70% in each (65% for SC/ST/DA), on aggregate of all subjects

A key difference from IIM Indore: IIM Shillong requires a minimum of 70% in Class 10 and 12, whereas IIM Indore has no minimum board-percentage bar. Students from IGCSE and IB (IBDP/IBCP) boards are eligible and must submit the "IB Indian Percentage Transcript". Those completing Class 12 by 31 July 2026 could apply and, if selected, were admitted provisionally.

Application procedure

Eligible candidates apply online at iimshillong.ac.in. For the 2026-31 batch the window ran 1–30 May 2026, with a non-refundable fee of ₹2,000 (₹1,000 for SC/ST/DA/EWS). Reserved-category candidates must produce a valid category/EWS certificate, and the category cannot be changed once the application is submitted.

The 6-stage selection process

  1. Application — meet the eligibility criteria and apply online.
  2. Sectional screen — only candidates with positive raw scores and the minimum mark in each section of IPMAT/SAT enter the pool (cut-offs set by category).
  3. Shortlisting for PI — a sufficient number per category (General, EWS, SC, ST, DA) are shortlisted on IPMAT/SAT scores.
  4. Personal Interview — held online, for shortlisted candidates only.
  5. Minimum-performance check — candidates must clear the minimum standards set on the PI parameters.
  6. Final merit list — a category-wise list is prepared on the Overall Score, and provisional offers (plus a waitlist) follow.

Note that IIM Shillong's shortlist is independent of other IIMs — the same IPMAT score can be shortlisted by one IIM and not another. Admission status for the 2026 cycle was viewable in the second week of July 2026.

The Overall Score formula — why the interview decides it

ComponentWeight
Class 10 marks10
Class 12 marks10
IPMAT 2026 score30
Personal Interview (PI)50
Overall Score100

This is the most important thing to understand about IIM Shillong: the PI is worth half the final score — more than the IPMAT (30) and both board results (20) combined. A strong IPMAT score gets you shortlisted, but the interview is where the seat is won or lost. That makes IIM Shillong very different from IIM Indore, where the aptitude test dominates the final call.

What this means for aspirants

Two clear takeaways if IIM Shillong is on your list:

  • Clear the IPMAT sectional cut-offs first. You need positive scores and the minimum in every section — no section can be neglected.
  • Then invest heavily in interview preparation. With the PI at 50%, mock interviews, current-affairs awareness and a clear personal narrative matter more here than almost anywhere else in the IPM ecosystem.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the eligibility for IIM Shillong IPM?

You must be born on or after 1 August 2006 (5-year relaxation for SC/ST/DA — born on or after 1 August 2001), have a minimum of 70% in both Class 10 and Class 12 (65% for SC/ST/DA), and have studied Mathematics or Applied Mathematics in Class 11 and Class 12. You also need a valid IPMAT Indore score (or SAT taken after 1 June 2025, for overseas candidates).

Which entrance exam does IIM Shillong accept for IPM?

IIM Shillong uses the IPMAT (IPM Aptitude Test) conducted by IIM Indore. Overseas candidates may instead submit a SAT score taken after 1 June 2025. IIM Shillong does not conduct its own aptitude test and does not use JIPMAT.

How does IIM Shillong select IPM students?

Selection runs in six stages: application, a sectional cut-off screen on the IPMAT/SAT (positive raw scores plus minimum marks in each section), category-wise shortlisting for the Personal Interview, an online PI, a minimum-performance check on PI parameters, and a final category-wise merit list based on the Overall Score.

What is the IIM Shillong IPM Overall Score formula?

The Overall Score is out of 100: Class 10 marks 10, Class 12 marks 10, IPMAT score 30, and Personal Interview 50. The PI carries the single largest weight — half the final score — so interview performance is decisive at IIM Shillong.

What are the IIM Shillong IPM application dates and fee?

For the 2026-31 batch, applications were open from 1 May to 30 May 2026 at iimshillong.ac.in, with a fee of ₹2,000 (₹1,000 for SC/ST/DA/EWS), non-refundable. The window is annual, so 2027 aspirants should expect a similar timeline and target IPMAT 2027.

Can students still appearing for Class 12 apply?

Yes. Candidates likely to complete Class 12 by 31 July 2026 could apply and, if selected, were admitted provisionally — they must produce Class 10 and Class 12 mark sheets plus a school-leaving/migration certificate at registration. Students from IGCSE and IB (IBDP/IBCP) boards are also eligible with the IB Indian Percentage Transcript.
