Ways to Approach Para Jumbles
-
Look for the Opening Sentence
The first sentence of a piece sets the theme and is often the only one of its kind to exist in the entire work. It:
- Is not used when referring to any other type of sentence.
- Initiates the key ideas of the paragraph and also is the closing statement of a paragraph.

-
Identify Connecting Words and Pronouns
These include words like however, consequently, therefore, and, but, as well as the pronouns he, she, it, this, that, these. It is established that these words connect the sentences, morphologically and logically.
Example:
‘This is why we have seen widespread degradation of our landscape’.
Here, the word “this” is an idea referred from the preceding statement of the discourse.
-
Spot Chronological or Logical Flow
Sentences that describe events or ideas may always have a cause-and-effect sequence or chronology of events sequence. Describe words that refer to time, that is, latter, first, then, next.
Example:
Jumbled Sentences:
- According to the scientific research in the year 2025, a real evolution is to occur in AI.

- In the recent past, the area of application of AI has grown in various disciplines.
Correct Sequence: C → A → B.
-
Look for Pairing Clues

- A question and its answer.
- A statement is a declaration that is made usually by an author or a writer to bring out an explanation.
Example:
Jumbled Sentences:
- This I reckon is the main reason as to why forests are being destroyed.
- There is a high incidence in the rate at which people are moving into urban areas.

-
Eliminate Incorrect Options
In multiple choice question and answers, exclude options which would distort the sequence of logical thinking. Select the most consistent sequence for the choice remaining from among all those given above.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Ignoring the Context: Try not to force yourself to rearrange the sentences before you have read each one carefully through.
- Focusing Solely on Grammar: Organization is more important than language formation when it comes to the identification of para jumbles.
- Guessing Without Clarity: This is a powerful technique to avoid guessing which has no basis or a whim.
